Meet Dr. Haggard

Hi, I’m Dr. Christopher Haggard, EdD, LMFT — founder of Stronghold Counseling & Wellness.

For over a decade, I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside individuals, couples, and families as they navigate life’s challenges. I help people move through anxiety, transitions, and relational struggles with evidence-based strategies, and I specialize in supporting couples as they strengthen communication and rebuild trust. For those who desire it, I also integrate faith-based counseling. In addition,I provide academic consulting for students, guiding them in creating a four-year plan that aligns with their future goals. I also support students in preparing for college admissions and meeting NCAA/NAIA eligibility requirements.
My approach is simple: meet people where they are—with warmth, curiosity, and respect for their unique story. Therapy with me is strength-based and collaborative, focused on helping you uncover resilience, nurture healthy relationships, and face challenges with confidence.
I grew up in a multicultural home where hard work, compassion, and community were core values. My mom worked as a hairstylist, my dad was a retired military veteran turned social worker, and my younger sister became an educational counselor. Those early lessons in encouragement and support continue to guide me in my work today.
At home, life is full of love, energy, and growth with my wife, our children, and our two dogs, Ferdinand and Avery. Faith and community are central to who I am, and I enjoy being actively involved in my church and connecting with others. Outside of therapy, I find joy in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, painting, photography, piano, yoga, dance, and weightlifting. I also love traveling, trying new foods, and spending quality time with my family—outlets that keep me grounded and often inspire my clinical work.

My Training & Background

I bring a unique background in both science and the arts, shaping the way I view people as whole, multidimensional beings.

  • Bachelor's in Biology & Fine Arts – California State University, Northridge (CSUN)

  • Master's in Marriage & Family Therapy & School Counseling (K–12) – University of Southern California (USC)

  • Doctorate in Educational Leadership & Organization, emphasis in Educational Psychology – University of Southern California (USC)

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and a Texas Certified School Counselor (K–12) with over a decade of experience in mental health counseling and education. My work spans private practice, school counseling, higher education, and community mental health.

Professional Affiliations
•       American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT)
•       American School Counselor Association (ASCA)
•       The Woodlands Mental Health Professionals

Through these organizations, I stay current with best practices and collaborate with other professionals to provide the highest level of care.

Who I Work With

I specialize in supporting adolescents, young adults, and couples—life stages often filled with transitions, identity exploration, and relational challenges. I find deep meaning in helping teens build self-worth and emotional regulation, guiding young adults as they clarify purpose, and walking alongside couples as they strengthen connection and communication.

My Approach in Session

I integrate Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Strength-Based approaches. With couples, I often use Gottman Method Couples Therapy to foster trust and intimacy. Depending on each client’s needs, I may also weave in mindfulness, creative expression, or faith-based exploration—always honoring what feels most authentic and helpful to them.
Above all, my goal is to create a safe, supportive space where you can find strength for the journey and hope for the soul.
